Lyric to Ashes

There is something to be said for the sight of dazzling fire,
a brazen iris adorning the senseless waves.
The heart I loved belonged to the sea --
in death she embraced him and I was left wanting.
In these times of war it is love that destroys us,
a riot of fear and wild grief, this sunless morning
just like every other observes my lover laid to rest.
By breathing his last he did not spare my life, rather
he condemned me to the night, to endless mourning
for his body, set to flames
for my love, forever sinking, scattered ashes on the wind.

Daddy Long Legs are more closely related to crabs than spiders and somehow the idea of crablike creatures with spider legs that have escaped the entrappings of the primordial sea and now crawl over land and can walk up and down walls and ceilings creeps me more than I can adequately describe.
